While looking for paper for sustainable printing, we came across Waardewenders, who give a new purpose to waste streams.

Paper made with grass from bee-friendly Dutch

roadside verges

Using roadside grass as a raw material for paper reduces waste and keeps the CO² stored in the grass clippings from being released. Waardewenders dries and mills the clippings in-house before further processing them.
Because the clippings are removed from the verges, the soil stays poor in nutrients, creating opportunities for a greater variety of flowers, herbs and grasses. They provide food and shelter for all kinds of animals. Insects are food for birds, bats and small mammals. In addition, the complex root systems of herb-rich soils help retain water and keep the ground more stable. Once the flowers and herbs have finished blooming, the verges are mown again and the clippings are used to make new paper.

Made in the Netherlands

Using roadside grass fibres sourced and processed in the Netherlands means less transportation and minimal CO2 emissions.

Sustainable

Reusing waste paper and adding roadside grass means fewer trees are needed to make this paper, which has an NL Greenlabel A sustainability rating.

Visible fibres

No chemical processes are used to bleach the paper, and the roadside grass fibres are subtly visible in the paper.

Responsibly made

The roadside grass used to make the paper comes from ecologically managed verges. This means the verges are not mown every week, giving wildflowers a chance to bloom. This helps insects and small animals living in the verges survive. The entire verge is not mown at once either; some vegetation is left standing, creating a better habitat for butterflies and bees.
