Sustainable printing

During our search for paper for sustainable printing we came into contact with Value turners, they give a new purpose to residual flows.

One of their projects is:

paper with grass from bee-friendly Dutch

verges

By using roadside grass as a raw material for the paper, the residual flow is reduced and the stored CO2in the cuttings not free. The cuttings are dried and ground in-house at Waardewenders before being processed further.
Because the grass cuttings do not remain in the verges, the soil remains poor and offers opportunities for more different flowers, herbs and grasses. It provides food and protection for all kinds of animals. The insects are on the menu of birds, bats and small mammals. In addition, herb-rich soils retain water better due to the more complex root structures and the subsoil remains firmer. And when the flowers and herbs have finished flowering, it is mowed again and used as raw material for new paper.

From Dutch soil

With roadside grass fibres from and produced on Dutch soil, there is less transport and minimal CO2 emissions.

Durable

By reusing old paper and adding roadside grass, fewer trees are needed for this paper with NL Greenlabel A sustainability passport.

Visible fibers

No chemical processes are used to bleach the paper and the roadside grass fibres are subtly visible in the paper.

Responsible

The verge grass fibres as raw material for paper come from ecologically managed verges. This means that the verges are not mowed weekly, but herbs are given the chance to bloom. Insects and small animals in the verge can survive as a result. Also, the entire verge is not mowed at once, but part of the vegetation is left standing. This creates a better living environment for butterflies and bees.
